Welcome to the Education and Parent Involvement WikiEdit
Perhaps the greatest of untapped resources in multicultural education today is the parents and guardians of our students. Each year, educators in New York City are introduced to a new cycle of students who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. While parent-teacher associations help guide parents and teachers into the same circles, much more should be addressed with regards to teachers and the way they utilize the parents to assist in the child’s education. The pressure placed on teachers leaves little time to reach this diversity in a profoundly inherent or effective way, but with a reevaluation of parent-teacher organizations it can be tapped into for the benefit of parents, teachers and most importantly, the students. Promoting parent involvement and engagement in schools has the power to lessen the education deficit and help provide a culturally relevant and rich education to all New York City students.
